Lucky Chops

I discovered Lucky Chops the way most people do; in the subway.  I had to look these guys up when i got home. They slide from traditional styles, into hip hop and even electronic music. This is what rock and roll sounds like now. Joy.

Yeezy | Pablo

We all know Kanye is one of the most talked about entertainers in the industry.  People talk about his attitude, experimental music, and all the angry rants he goes on; but one thing that cannot be denied and has remained consistent through it all is his passion for Art.

Sing Street

Synopsis: SING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who is looking for a break from a home strained by his parents' relationship and money troubles, while trying to adjust to his new inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher.

If these clips seem familiar to you, it's probably because you’re most familiar with the director John Carney who directed the Oscar winning film turned stage musical Once.   Carney’s style is nothing if not straightforward about the emotional truth of his characters, who often are looking to break out of their current circumstances.  Such is the story of young Cosmo in ‘Sing Street’.

The Morning Sea

Music should evoke emotion and feeling.  It inspires us and connects with certain memories, experiences, and visions.  Well at least for me.  And I truly love any music that gives me inspiration.  If the name The Morning Sea isn't already a starting point for a wonderful visual to depict, then just take in the sounds of the group's album Mal de Mar.

Sooooo every year, my Mom and I watch American Idol together.  Yeah yeah yeah, I know Lol!  And you know how people get mad at the results and say, "UGH! Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord is a South African rap-rave group featuring lead MC Ninja, and singer/rapper Yo-Landi.  The group's name is Afrikaans and translates to mean "The Answer".  There's a counterculture movement in South Africa known as Zef that the group uses as influence for their image.  Here is how Yo-Landi likes to describe zef:

"It's associated with people who soup their cars up and rock gold and shit. Zef is, you're poor but you're fancy. You're poor but you're sexy, you've got style."

The video Baby's On Fire is the perfect display of this visual artistry.  The video is directed by Ninja and co-directed by Terence Neale.  With evident 90's influences and soft grunge aspects, Die Antwoord successfully captures the unique sound and look that people are drawn towards today. This is essential especially now where mainstream music has become redundant. I’d give this video a thumbs up for giving us all that underground awe factor we yearn for. With captivating sound and aesthetic appeal, this is the perfect video to enjoy baked on a sunny Friday noon accompanied by some of your most energized peeps and killer surround sound. Defiantly something worth showing a friend.
